  • The City of Bloomfield has been awarded a $750,000 grant to complete. This project is to upgrade the existing collection system in Bloomfield to address Infiltration and Inflow (I & I) issues. The system comprises approximately 87,000 linear feet of gravity collection lines and 312 manholes and lampholes. Our investigation, conducted with the City of Bloomfield and their Engineer, has identified potential I & I sources that require further testing. The proposed project involves smoke testing and video inspection to pinpoint problem areas. Smoke testing will be done during the design phase to identify issues, including illegal connections or residential problems. The collected data will inform the creation of construction documents outlining video inspections and repairs for the entire collection system and manholes. For I & I flows, the focus will be on visually cleaning and inspecting gravity sewer lines using cameras. It is anticipated that about 40% of the lines will require repairs, likely through a cured in place pipe method. Other repairs to manholes and system features are also considered in the overall estimate. The project will utilize field data to estimate flow from each source, comparing costs to determine a suitable budget. Repairing the worst areas is expected to significantly reduce I & I flows, benefiting the new wastewater treatment facility and the new rehabbed pumping stations.
